iPad

23/12/2011

MacBook, my trustworthy companion. I had you for so long, you stayed right by my side through the eternal battles with school assignments. You’ve never let me down. You execute applications swiftly with utmost stability leaving those Windows machine in shame. You are incredibly awesome.

School assignments are things of the past. The mobility and the computational power of the MacBook is no longer useful for me. For that, I apologize for forsaking you. Forgive me MacBook for disregarding you for I have bought an iPad.

iPad. The legendary iPad. Who have not heard of the iPad? One of a kind. My companion.

The iPad was first announced on January 27, 2010 by Apple’s then-CEO Steve Jobs. It was marketed as a device to bridge the gap between smartphones and laptops. I’ve had mine for a couple of months and I must say that in fact, it rendered my MacBook useless.

I couldn’t find anymore reasons why I needed to boot up my MacBook for my computing needs when the iPad paired with my iMac was able to suffice my needs.

One of the main reasons why iOS devices are wildly successful is because of the App Store. Needless to say, there is an app for almost everything. The apps themselves extend the capability of the iOS devices tremendously. When you think about it, without the apps, iOS devices are nothing. Plain devices with no special functionality. That is one of the reasons why I preferred my iPad over my MacBook. The vast amount of apps allows me to do a lot of things. Just yesterday, I was watching a movie on my iPad. It was streamed via my iMac. I’m not saying that it’s not possible to watch it on my MacBook streamed via the iMac but it’s a hassle to set it up.

Moreover, the iPad is so much lighter than the MacBook. I wouldn’t want a heavy device on me while I’m lying down on my bed watching a movie. Furthermore, the MacBook contains a typical hard disk with movables parts. It can cause detrimental effects with sudden movement, not cool when you’re lying down with it.

My MacBook, it’s archaic, it’s no longer in production. The battery is wrecked. It’s not able to hold a charge for more than two hours. Unlike the iPad, it holds it’s battery charge a whole lot longer. And I no longer need to worry about the blanket blocking the ventilation and causing overheating problems.

The iPad is of course great but when I’m starting University, I’m definitely getting a MacBook Pro. The iPad isn’t really catered for developers or programmers. However, it’s great for creating quick app or site mockups! But still, it’s more of a device to consume content, not so much on content creation. I’d definitely encourage the general public to get an iPad, it might be able to suffice the needs of many. The only regrets I have is not getting the 64GB model. Other than that, I can’t live without my iPad.

My iMac – Confessions of an Apple Aficionado

25/07/2009

I have been so busy lately and will be even super busy in the upcoming week. 2 test and 2 assignment submission for next week! Major insanity.

Anyways, last thursday July 16, 2009. Yes it’s been about more than a week, my iMac arrived! It’s like finally!

This is the specification of my iMac,

  • 24″ Glossy Display
  • 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 4GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SD RAM
  • 640GB Serial ATA Hard Drive
  • ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
  • Apple Mighty Mouse & Keyboard

And of course it comes with iLife, MAC OS X and so on and so forth. I can’t wait for Snow Leopard to be out! I got another offer, Snow leopard for 9USD only! This machine runs blazing fast. Comparing to my Macbook, 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM. It’s way better even though the specification is nearly the same.

It cost about $3050 all in all. It’s a gift from my parents for doing well in school! Hopefully i can still do well in school.. I’m finding this semester difficult.. I don’t wanna disappoint them. Anyways, since it was a gift i had to somewhat take advantage of the opportunity given. I specifically configured mine at the Apple Store,Yes i know you get more for what you pay for like any other computer like DELL, HP but it’s not a mac, I got the most expensive graphics card that money can buy for the iMac. Yes, I know I’m such as asshole. But i play games at times too! Speaking of games, i so love Left 4 Dead and i can’t wait for Left 4 Dead 2 is be out. I’m digressing.

Nevertheless, my iMac is so heavy. The exact weight is 11.5 kg. I had a hard time carrying it alone into my room after it got delivered. Let the pictures do the talking!

Hugely written. ‘Assembled in China.” – Finely printed at the bottom.

It’s thin and have 2 USB ports and yet it’s sturdy. It feels heavy.

Totally loving it.

My macbook and loads of wires on my desk.

It’s not that glossy. It still has a plastic warp around it.

What? Only one wire? The power cord only? Sucks to be you, Windoze Users. Well.. unless you’re using a windows laptop then you win me LOL. I still have the Keyboard and mouse wire.

Pretty much, everything in my room is white..

The slit where you actually push in the CD or DVD.

And then my skin arrived for my ipod touch. I got this plaid design which is somewhat close to Burberry’s design.

And it also comes with a matching wallpaper! I paid $13 only for it. Cheap or what huh? I’m so in love with the design. And i absolutely love my gorgeous iMac.

Apple Keynote

14/06/2007

Apple’s Leopard is wonderful. I have not tried it yet but it looks great with 300 new features and Steve Jobs could only show 10 of it.

Leopard introduces over 300 new features, including a new Desktop and Dock with Stacks, an intuitive new way to organize files; an updated Finder featuring Cover Flow™ and a new way to easily browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to rapidly preview most files without opening an application; Time Machine, a new way to easily and automatically back up and restore lost files or a complete Mac®; Spaces, a powerful new feature to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and enhanced iChat and Mail applications, which easily allow users to communicate even more creatively.

With its unique ability to let users travel back in time to find deleted files, applications, photos and other digital media, Time Machine is a revolutionary way to protect your digital life. With just a one-click setup, Time Machine automatically keeps an up-to-date copy of everything on the Mac. In the event a file is lost, users can use Mac OS X’s Spotlight™ to search back through time to find and then instantly restore the file. Time Machine can automatically back up a Mac to an external hard drive connected with a FireWire® or USB cable, to a server, or wirelessly to an AirPort Extreme® base station with an attached hard drive.

Leopard also includes three new technologies that take full advantage of the latest developments in processor hardware: full native 64-bit support to enable applications to take complete advantage of 64-bit processing while still running side by side with existing 32-bit Mac OS X applications and drivers; easy multi-core optimization and scheduling to take advantage of the latest Intel hardware; and Core Animation, helping developers easily create animated user experiences as amazing as Leopard’s Spaces and Time Machine in their own applications.

I copied over some of the interesting ones from here

Isn’t it cool? Even though I don’t know what is 64Bit but i guess it must be a good thing. I want Leopard too but I don’t think I can install it on any of the computers in my house. I tried installing Tiger before but it doesn’t work so I gave up trying to get a fake mac and just save up and just buy one of the those machines. I’m positively sure those ‘beta’ Leopard will be floating around in the internet.

Not forgetting iPhone it is coming out in US 29 June. It will be coming out in Asia 2008 i think. Nevertheless it will give us some time to collect money and buy that stuff. iPhone is seriously nice looking and it has such wonderful interface and multi touch technology! However, it only has 2 Megapixel camera which i find it rather low and it does not have 3G capabilities.

I want a Macbook Pro and iMac. The Macbook Pro can use it for schooling in poly and the iMac use it at home. I’ll drive my bmw with my macbook pro or maybe a macbook. (HAHA i’m just a dreamer)

Price and some of the pictures were taken from www.apple.com. It is so expensive. There is no box thingy where you put your CDs it is only the screen, mouse and keyboard for the iMac. Everything is inside the box where the screen is. The Macbook Pro is much more powerful in terms of speed. I really want one..(maybe 2 of it) I love Apple’s product!
