Daily Unhappy

20/01/2010

A daily unhappy entry as opposed of the usual daily happy entry.

I’m typing in this entry with heavy eyes. The reason being that I have not slept since yesterday! I’ve been working hard on my school assignment.

The past week has been a very tough week. We basically had two PBL subjects. If you don’t know what is PBL, let me give you a brief walkthrough.

PBL stands for problem-based learning. A PBL subject basically is about solving problems, real life problems humans like you and me encounter. PBL subjects are not like our typical subjects we’ve been taught in secondary school. In a PBL class, we are given a problem and then we would have to research on the internet or library to find a solution. There’s no usual spoon feeding from teachers.

Imagine having 2 PBL assignments due within the same week and they are only a day apart. The thing about PBL is that it requires a lot of time and individual researching and self study.

I’ll just get straight to the point. We pretty much did quite well for our first PBL assignment on Monday which was a subject called Business Integrated Technologies.  A second PBL assignment for Distributed Systems and Connectivity is due on Wednesday.

Mind you it is a programming subject. It’s not easy. We were too focused on Business Integrated Technologies to the point that we didn’t have enough time for Distributed Systems and Connectivity.

My groups and I finished our presentation and in my opinion, it went horrible. Basically we are suppose to design an application based on distributed systems.

I didn’t have time to complete my application and most of the functions are not working. Thus, I was standing infront of the class and talking like a fool without sleep and groggy.

My teacher asked whether if she gave us another day, will I be able to complete it?

That question seems to signify that I did not manage to complete to even hit the passing criteria and she’s considering giving me a second chance.

I shall not continue my blabber about how it’s tough for polytechnic students to enter into local university.

All I’m saying is that I’m upset.

Awkward moment

5/08/2009

An interesting day today, worthy enough to be penned down!

I was grouped with 2 girls for my Client Server Application Development(CSAD) assignment.

Last Friday, they didn’t seem to be interested in doing their work when the deadline was just hours away. I took matters into my own hand and did everything on my own.

After I have completed everything and burned it onto a CD and ready for submission, they asked whether i would like to combine the work.

Is that a joke? When I already finished everything?

I ignored them.

Today, Wednesday, is our presentation for the assignment that was due on last Friday. I already told them on Monday, we are separating as a group. When Mr Lim, our CSAD tutor, walked in. They had a talk with him.

Soon after it was my turn.

I just HAD to spill all the beans. I was very prepared. I printed reasons why i decided to abandon them. Mind you, it’s 3/4 of a page. Are you gawking yet? It’s a paper filled with complex things and it is somewhat deadly. Xavius had a peek at it and he was shocked. He was like, are you seriously gonna say this out? This is really nasty. Spare some thought for the girls.

4 words.

What do i care?

Mr Lim eventually singled me out and we had a talk outside.

LOL IT WAS AWKWARD?

I explain everything why i abandon them but i didn’t say the last sentence in the paper which can turn the table around and give the girls a one big fat zero. The only reason was that they were given extra time to ‘understand’ the codes. i said stuff about how i gave them enough time to complete and yet nothing is being and i mention i notice them playing in class instead of doing work. And so on.

The weird part was that, the girls did submit their part of the work. When they talked to Mr Lim, they say that they didn’t understand the codes. Intriguing isn’t it? They do not understand the codes yet at the same time they manage to come out with codes for the assignment. It doesn’t make sense.

Obviously we can deduce 2 conclusions. Either they copied someone or someone did it for them. I reckon it’s the latter since I DO know who did it and i did hear them cheering and said “Ohh Thanks XXXXXX!”

I said to Mr Lim, “Who knows, someone did it for them.” sarcastically. Later on, I DID mention the name of the person who did it. LOL.

I was talking with Mr Lim and he proceed on saying, so you guys are not talking anymore?

I said, yeah not talking anymore. I wanted to say, “What do i have to lose anyway?” but i didn’t it sounds rather smug.

And i told him I’m changing class too so it doesn’t matter. He was surprised and asked, you’re changing class next semester because of them?

I said yeah, most of them are going to the C# route and I chose the Java route.

And then somehow i told him i was introvert but i don’t remember how we got there. And he began changing the topic and started talking about me instead.

And he began questioning me like, so you’re alone most of the time & who do you voice out if you have issues of difficulty?

I was thinking myself, good lord why are is he talking about me now? Isn’t the focus of this talk is about the CSAD assignment? One more question he’s gonna ask about me and I’m gonna say “Mr Lim, i thought the focus of this talk is about them and not about me excuse me.”

LOL. I don’t like it when people ask me those questions, makes me feel uneasy.

My reply is even more comical.

“I AM JUST WEIRD OKAY?”

LOL.

He did mention later on saying that like it’s important to voice out if you have difficulties and stuff.

That is pretty much sums up my conversation with Mr Lim.

I was the first guy to present.

Devaju back to my WDS presentation which i did so badly.

My presentation is super short. AND MY INSERT STATEMENT SUDDENLY DECIDED TO CRAP OUT OF ME WHEN I TESTED IT LIKE A BILLION TIMES AT HOME. I SWEAR IT’S THE BLOODY SHITTY COMPUTER AT SCHOOL.

I really hope I didn’t screw up my presentation that bad.

All in all, it was a good day.

Now, I’m left with my French assignment and designing of brochure for my CMSK.
